The last post on the bolt was when we completed the lathe work on it. This left us with a turned bolt with the firing pin hole drilled and bored.
A fixture was designed to allow us to machine the bolt at the different angles and still keep everything aligned as it should be.
It is placed in the vise against a stop and the hole for the base of the cartridge is machined as is the spring for the extractor.
Another view of the same operation.
Next an angle adapter is installed in the vise to allow the bolt fixture to set against it. This allow us to machine the opening for the extractor.
With this photo you can see the angle of the machined opening.
Close up as it sets in the machineCompleted bolts for this operation.
The last few to be completed today.
I was wondering at what exact point in the cycle the gas ports in the barrel function, and what the difference is if they are blocked ?
Maybe if the ports were at the chamber end a true gas delayed blowback could be achieved ? Could be an interesting experiment ?
there is pistols on this principle:

Supposedly they function, but in not very big percent, seeing how close to the muzzle they are.
The blocked ports affair difference puzzles me too, I hope we will see the high fps camera testing of that, if its possible to calculate if the bolt moves/opens faster when they are blocked.
Being close to chamber would be much better option, but then it would be needed to redesign the whole gun, especially the gas chamber, to fit it somehow near chamber.
With that arrangement I suppose gas erosion of the ports would be much greater, so you would need to think a way around that, too.
