Looks like the inner receiver section of the MP-44. They are a bit like a cut-down SKS receiver.

On this one I’ll go with “something that goes in the receiver somewhere”
I agree it is the inner trunnion for the MP43/44 series of weapons. The sheet metal is then wrapped around it and seamed together with spot welds. Harry
I checked the blueprints for MP44 and if it isn’t the trunnion for it, it’s not a part for for that series of rifles.

You should not write tags with name of the weapon, it makes it a lot easier to identify.
