Part 2 on the VG1-5 barrel fluting

In the last post I talked about the new fluting tool and press. This post is about the actual process.

This is a short video showing the speed and ease of fluting with the new system.

More VG1-5 updates

With the completion of the mechanical portions of the cnc router it the computer portions have been being worked on. The router original used a Mach 3 operating system with an older style break out board. We upgraded the computer systems and well as the mechanical systems and have a real issue ever since. Wally, […]

Back on the VG1-5

Started on the new fluting tool design. We have had some issues with the fluting of the chambers. Some of the issues have been narrowed down to our original tool design. To correct the flute issue we went back to the design. Starting with the thickness of the flutes and the length of the flutes, […]

Barrel Fluting for the VG1-5 barrel

Here is a short video about fluting the VG1-5 barrel.

The process of fluting a barrel is dependent on a number of factors. The first is the tool design. So far we have use 4 different types of fluting tools. All of them have had minor dimensional changes.

The second is pressure. We […]

Working on the chamber fluting press

When we last attempted to flute the chamber of the VG1-5 we had some movement in the press itself causing the fluting tool to snap.

We have made a number of changes to the fluting press to correct some of its short comings.

Here is a video of those changes.

Now on to the […]

Working on the VG1-5 stock

With the router table completed, for the most part, we started working on the stocks for the VG1-5 rifle. This video takes the stock from a rough sawed pattern to the finished dimensional stock.

To complete this task we used two different router bits. The first bit

being a bearing guided bit that rides […]

Another weekend has come and gone. I just do not know where the time goes anymore. The weekend ends seem to take forever to get here and in a flash they are gone.

There were two main projects that I needed to complete this weekend. The first is re-work and finish up the router table. […]

Part 1 on making the stocks for the VG1-5

This last weekend I started making the stocks for the VG1-5. This is a multi step process in which the basic board is measured, have the edge squared, re-sawed, planed, and generally set up to then make the stock.

This is the video for part one.

So I am starting with this.

And end up […]

Update on the fluting press

With the last of the fittings here I was able to hook up the hydraulics to the fluting press.

I have a short video of it operating.

The next step is to finish attaching the dro. then to fluting barrels
