I had the opportunity to examine an m63 Stoner light machine gun top cover and feed tray. This weapon is one of those mystic weapons that everyone wants and can’t afford. I happen to take a number of pictures of it to study at a later date. This is justĀ the photo essay of the top cover and feed tray.
However first a Stoner LMG.
I always take pictures like I am going to make it. In this case I am not but I still like to study every angle of an assembly.
It should be mentioned that the feed cover assembly that’s shown is a late model, all sheet metal construction, versus earlier models that used a number of machined castings.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Actually you have it reversed. The gun is a Stoner 63A but the feed cover and tray are from a Stoner 63. The later version used heavier castings so that they would not deform under load or when the cover was closed with the bolt group in the forward position.
Well, and after all these years, I thought it was the opposite. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for adding your expertise to the site.
stoner lmg is such a cool system. Want I really want to know is what the barrel swapping and trunion look like.
I will try and get some pictures and drawings posted
Great tips, I never realized that you can do that to a rifle.
Great idea for tinkering with your machine gun when you get bored.
