The answer is that it is a low light front sight for a Lewis light machine gun.

Okay had enough on this what is it Saturday. It was a tough one. A friend of Gun Lab sent this to me to add to my reference library.

It is an early rear sight aperture spring for the very first AR-18’s. It never went into production. I am looking for pictures of these rifles or drawings of this rear sight. If and when I find it I will post it here.

The pictures from yesterday’s post.

Are from a AR-180B rifle. This part is the bolt hold open device.

You can see the difference between the AR-180B and the AR-180 with this next picture.

With The AR-180B some additional parts are required.

Looking at this next set of pictures you can see the difference between the two lower receivers.

The AR-180B was design to use as many AR-15 parts as possible. It was also a plastic injected molded receiver with a metal insert to act as usable surfaces for pins and wear points.

Here a few general picture of the rifle.

What you are looking at is the spigot stem to a “Bigot”. For those of you not familiar with this weapon it is a dart firing adapter for a 1911 pistol.

Sorry for the late answer to this Saturday what is it.

It is the brreechblock from a Sauer & Sohn model 1930 pistol. This is a copy from NRA firearms assembly 2, A book you should have in your library, showing the components of the pistol. It is part number 7.

This picture shows the pistol down to it’s basic field stripping.

To assembly the pistol the slide goes over the main spring and barrel, then the breechblock is slide in from the back and the slide cap is screwed on.

This whole project started because I just received a second pistol but the firing pin was missing. Having a shop and a second pistol I decided to make a new firing pin. Same model pistol with only a few hundred difference in serial number range. However the firing pin from my first pistol is to large for the second pistol. In fact there a number of parts that will not interchange between the pistols. Still the firing pins turned out nice and I will change the necessary dimensions to make new ones for the second pistol.

Comes from an 8×57 Dror machine gun. Here are a few picture of this weapon.

One of the unique items about this LMG is the open bolt operation while on full auto and the closed bolt operation while on semi- auto.

Here is a close up look of this fire control system.

You can see the full auto sear engaged in the bolt.

This is the bolt that you looked at yesterday.

The ring on the back is to cock the bolt.

You can see where the hammer travels through the bolt and strikes the firing pin. This rifle fires from a closed bolt.

It goes to the Beretta model 1918/30 carbine in 9mm Glisenti. It is a cartridge similar to the 9×19 but of much less powerful, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9mm_Glisenti.

You can see the similarity to the Beretta model 38 smg bolt.

9mm Luger ammunition will fit and fire in this weapon but should not be used.

It was a well made carbine using a forged and machined receiver.

It was generally issued as a police carbine.

This is a bolt carrier for a Farquhar-Hill rifle. This bolt is from a drum type rifle. Here are a few pictures of it.
