Once again the weekend is over and I am still not finished

The third coat of epoxy was put down on the floor but not until I removed the epoxy from the joints and cleaned them and then filled them in, should have done this first.

We started to move the boxes of books to the the racks and get them off the rolling book cases.

That is not even all the books from the rolling book case.

The stucco was removed from around the door and the old walk way.

Then the plywood was removed to inspect the termite damage.

On both sides

The framing was completed and the door moved.

Started working on the outside protective coating prior to putting up the stucco again.

Just ran out of time. It will be finished this next weekend.

The upstairs deck did get coated with a water proof coating

Part of this complete transformation is to move the hardware store and convert that room and the well room as a wood shop addition.

More on the Library

This post actually has more to do with then just the library. All the walls around the patio and the area below it have been sheathed and the windows installed. A great deal of work was accomplished this last weekend.

Started water proofing the new deck.

The cross over between the stairs and the deck was removed to allow me to put new OSB up on the out side wall.

And the first coat of epoxy was put down on the library floor.

Next weekend the door will be moved to the outside wall. With that the lower section will be totally enclosed. A number of other things were also accomplished this last weekend, but that is for another post. Such exciting things as the work on the cnc router, more accomplishments on the VG1-5 and the start on the wood shop over haul and termite eradication. Plus some interesting gun photo’s.

The new library part 4

Saturday was spent working on the deck for phase 2 of the library. All new 2×10’s were set in place and 1″ tongue and grove plywood set in place.

With the deck in place there are a couple of small issues that need to be address then the walls for the porch and phase 2 of the library will be built.

The new library floor was acid etched. The next step is to per-treat the floor for the epoxy coating.

Work on the library has started in earnest. The worst thing about the Library build is that the back hoe broke and everything had to be accomplished by hand.

The footer was dug and poured by had using my mixer. The framing was built and then the stem wall was poured.

Termite tubes are installed.

Adding dirt and starting compacting. A regular compactor was rented and used. As a side note all the dirt was dug by hand and moved over by wheel barrel.

The inside and out side walls are covered with osb. The outside walls are covered with an epoxy membrane More to come.

The new Library Part 1

Step one of this whole process was to build a new store room so I could move and organize the old store room which would then be part of the new library building, confused yet I am.

The old store room was a disaster and something need to be done.

A slab was put down.

Then the framing was started.

And finished.

Prior to stucco the building was coated with a water proof membrane.

The electric was added for lighting.

A final coating was completed.

Then the racks installed and everything gone through and moved over.

Well the weekend is over and the library is dome. We went through all the boxes, except gun magazines, and have found a place for most of them. What a long day. Here are the pictures of the results.

Up date on the library

My last post on my library and the mess that it was in hit a few off note cords around here. No access to a great deal of my reference library and the mess all the rooms were in really pushed my buttons. Then boom I get a call from a general contractor ,that I did some work for, and he wants to get rid of some moving book cases. These are the type you see in large library’s only a 4 compartment set. He wants to know if I want them or not, of course we all know the answer to that. So I picked them up this morning and the days work was set. This is what the little room looked like before we re-worked it.

Now after we started the whole new library thing.

This was not accomplished with out making a mess everywhere. The books had to go somewhere while we moved.

All the garbage in the room had to come out as well.

A little more work was done on the wall of the wood shop as well. It was sanded and a final coat of mud put down. One more sanding and then I will paint it.

Saturdays over, but tomorrow is another fun filled day.

Welcome to the Library

A while back I read a post at one blogs that I go to everyday and he was chatting about his library. So I thought I would go into a little more detail about Gun Labs reference library. This last weekend in the update I showed a picture of the new file cabinets that I got for storing documentation. I thought I would post a few picture of the complete library. Keep in mind that not only do I study about guns but I have number of different interests as well. I enjoy metal working, wood working, metal casting and forging, alternative energy, and jewelery making. Kind of an odd grouping, but not really. The truth is that I like to work with my hands and make things. So here goes the library pictures. I really need one big building for my library but it is not in the works just yet.

These are the two book cases in the living room and where I keep the books that I go to every day.

The current library is approximately 3500 hundred books and magazines. I really want a dedicated library building.

It is hard to believe that I called the visiting nurses association to come pick up 7 car loads of books a few years ago.

Weekend up date 3-23-15

Busy weekend. A number of small and large projects were completed this weekend so lets get to the list.

The first was completing the painting in the fab shop. This is what it looked like.

And this is how it looks now.

I hope to work on the last of the lighting next weekend.

The wall in the wood shop was sanded and another coat of mud put on. This is the before we even started it picture.

Then after we took out the window and framed it in.

We moved some equipment around in the wood shop it allow easier access and use.

I need to build a dust cabinet around the cnc router and I wanted the access to be where I can install and remove fixtures and parts.

I finished the radial arm saw table.

My wife started on the new library/document room.

We also got the cnc router up and running. The parameters had been changed and it took most of Saturday getting it to work properly. Here is a quick video of it cutting air.

The other project that was worked on was the photographic stand for rifles and pistols. The first version I was using a lazy susan to allow me to move it.

However there was to much movement so the final version is just bolted to the board.

Weekend trip part 3, looking at gun rooms

While on the trip I wanted to look and photograph a few guns for up coming posts. The owners were nice enough to let me take pictures of their gun room and post them. No address or names but some interesting weapons. I enjoy looking at gun rooms from the smallest to the largest. Some times it is not the guns but the rooms that are interesting and some time it is just about the guns. This first post is a room of a guy that likes everything and it is from him that I was able to borrow the rifles that I will be posting about next week. However, I think there will be a lot more interesting pictures and information coming from here.
