Backhoe update or what have I been doing lately

When we last left our well used and over worked really old Ford backhoe we were getting diesel fuel in the oil sump. That was a while back and with no money or time to fix it it just seat there. A program was started to repair it and it is used with great regularity around gun lab to do everything.

There were and still are a number of problems with it but they are getting fixed.

The first items we tackled were the leaking cylinders on the boom. All three of the cylinders were leaking so bad. Every one had to be removed and rebuilt.

After the cylinders were rebuilt and brought back the real fun began.

New pistons were required, the cylinders re-built and the ends welded back on. New bushings were made here and installed.

Then installed on the old girl.

Next the fuel pump and ejectors were removed and re-built and then re-installed. At the same time this was going on we changed the oil, oil and air filters, all the fuel filters and fixed a few leaks.

The last item on this repair run was a new battery. It is now back to work for the old gal until their is money to re-build the control valves and replace the older hoses.

But that is for another weekend.

Taking some time off for fun

There was a small machine gun shoot this last Saturday and with my friend Axel in town my wife convinced me to go and take a day off. We had a great time and Axel as well as myself got to do some shooting and have a little fun. This is the video I did of Axel shooting, unfortunately I did not get the video of him shooting the full auto Sudanese AR-10. That rifle is just way to much fun standing up in full auto. He was a hazard to low flying aircraft.

Something interesting happened at the shoot and that is you should always check what kind of ammo you are shooting. A friend bought a large number of reloads and partial boxes of factory 38 special. After he finished shooting it a strange case was noticed on the ground.

It was a 32-20 fired in a 38 special chamber.

It was easy to make the mistake if you are not checking each and every round.

I also got to shoot a Knight Armament 308 rifle with suppressor. What a great gun I just wish I had the money to buy one.

A great time was had by all and I am glade I took the day off.
