AR-180B parts update

With the parts coming backĀ  from the heat treating company on Friday it was time to get busy getting them finished.

This is how they look after heat treating. This is the safety.

DSC_6359csThe first step was to run them through the tumbler to remove the majority of the scaling.

DSC_6363sAfter the tumbler they are then bead blasted to clean them for parkerizing.

DSC_6386sYou will notice the different colors. They were parkerized at the same time with the same solution. The reason for the differences is the material , 1018 vs 4130, and the heat treating performed on the parts.

We are working on the spring bending die today and hope to have the parts set up for sale this weekend.

Very excited to hear. Planning on building one with your parts as your parts and a Nodak lower

Stupid question, but how do I submit or contact you to place order for the parts? And, will the bolt catch that you made work in an original Sterling AR180?

Is 1018 part case hardened ?(I suppose thats the bolt hold open)

  • Chuck

The bolt hold open is 4130 and hardened through out. The safety is 1018 and case hardened.

  • Is it possible to purchase just the bolt catch and if so what is the price. I have found a way to use the AR180B bolt catch to replace the original AR180 bolt catch with the simple fabrication of a spring installed on the hammer pin. The spring and possibly a spacer washer is all that would be needed with the AR180B bolt catch.

I remember reading a comment about someone wanting to do this in order to remove the the over engineered bolt catch in his original AR180 and save it for originality but not run the danger of having it break like so many do.

    Greetings Gun Lab,

When do you think the AR-180B bolt catch and safety lever will be available to purchase? I am ready to buy!

    Warm Regards,
    Alex

Hello Alex. You can get them now from Rick over at http://ar180s.com/

Hello, are you manufacturing the necessary parts to build a Nodak receiver? I’m interested in converting a 180B, but the prices for them have nearly matched a real 180. So if need be, I’d like to do a Nodak receiver, and use a standard 180 upper.

Any information you can supply is much appreciated.

    Take care,

    Lenny

Hello, I am asking if you have any plans to make a bolt hold open for the AR-180.

Looking forward hearing from you soon,

    Arthur Benjamins

Good Sir, Look on Gun Broker and use the search ar180b and you will find a seller of bolt hold up lever for $95.00. As I recall the website: Ar180S.com also sold a kit with the bolt catch, Spring, and pivot pin for around $125.00. Best of luck in your search for parts. R, Alex

Hi Alex – many thanks for your reply. It is the AR180 bit I was looking for. The “B” denotation is a different design whereby the return is governed at the actual pivot point in the frame, unlike the 180, which has a welded-on lug with a rather over-fussy spring loaded pawl is inserted and pinned. If anyone has a working drawing of this piece, I’ll happily make it myself. Many thanks indeed – Arthur

    Hello Alex,
Many thanks but the AR-180B safe/fire is a piece that I don’t require. But thanks nevertheless.
    Kind regards,

Hello Authur, Sorry about the misdirection to AR-180B sites. I have not held, let along shot, an AR-180 since 2009 and 1982 respectively. Good luck finding parts. Check with Armalite to see if their repair folks have NOS of AR-180 parts. About three years ago the Armalite repair techs had AR-180B parts that were not on the Armalite website. I was able to get a few 180B parts from the repair team.
